Challenger Peper: 'It's time for the next wave of leaders'


Local attorney Mark Peper is new to politics, but he says he's a familiar face in Charleston County and in touch with the needs of people in his district.
The former Charleston County Park and Recreation commissioner is seeking his first elected office.
"We need some younger people in politics," the 30-year-old Peper said. "It's time for the next wave of leaders to come in and step up."
One of the most important issues facing County Council is dealing with the need for roads and other infrastructure in a growing county, he said.
"If we're going to invite people to move to Charleston County and West Ashley, we have to provide a way for them to get to work, church and school," Peper said.

Bostic, Peper post easy GOP victories


Contrary to his campaign slogan, Charleston County Council candidate Joey Douan didn't "Git-R-Done" Tuesday. And in the race for the District 6 seat, incumbent Curtis Bostic brought in 59 percent of the vote and beat Nancy Cook, a member of the Charleston County School Board.

Newcomer Mark Peper defeated Douan with 64 percent of the vote in the Republican primary race for the District 7 County Council seat.click here to read more

Man jailed for likeness to robber


Surveillance photos from a Dec. 27, 2007, robbery of a BB& T Bank in Sumter show a suspect who bears resemblance to Richard Jolly. At the time, however, Jolly already was jailed at the Charleston County Detention Center, charged with robbing banks in Mount Pleasant and West Ashley on Oct. 25. Authorities have since dropped the charges and think the same man could have been responsible for at least a half dozen robberies in South Carolina.click here to read more
